Today’s modern enterprises understand the critical role that technology plays in driving sustainability. With this in mind, Swedwise, the Swedish iron and steel trade association Jernkontoret, Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Center for Collective Intelligence (CCI), have come together to achieve sustainable development goals with The Agenda 2030 Compass.
Launched at the end of 2022, The Agenda 2030 Compass is designed to help organizations integrate the 2030 Agenda into their strategic planning processes by visualizing how different action options will impact societal value across all the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This allows decision-makers to maximize positive interactions and minimize negative ones.
Now available for use by organizations worldwide, the compass has two key components: the Context Mapper and the Strategy Analyzer. The Context Mapper identifies potential interactions among SDGs based on factors such as socio-economic conditions and the physical environment, while the Strategy Analyzer provides a simple, robust workshop-based process and toolbox to analyze the sustainability implications of a planned intervention.
“No part of an organization, or social actor, can solve sustainability-related problems by itself. If we are to really succeed in navigating in the more sustainable direction, we need to act together”
– Kristian Skånberg, head of research at Jernkontoret and responsible for the launch of the Sustainability Compass in Sweden.
The 2030 Agenda is a global framework created by the United Nations General Assembly and centered on an ambitious set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), 169 targets, and over 230 indicators.
