Region Jönköping
Region Jönköping County (RJL) is responsible for healthcare, public transport, and regional development in the Jönköping area. With thousands of employees, IT plays a crucial role in ensuring continuity and quality of service across the region’s operations.
Region Jönköping uses Broadcom’s Service Desk platform, which includes a built-in Change Calendar used for scheduling system upgrades and releases. However, access to this calendar was limited to a select group of users. As a result, planned changes sometimes overlapped, leading to unanticipated service disruptions.
Challenge
The Region wanted an easier way to share the Change Calendar across departments and improve transparency around what changes were scheduled, created, or needed to be removed.
This required a Change Calendar that could be made available to all relevant users, without compromising data security or overwhelming them with technical complexity. They sought a simple, accessible overview that would help avoid scheduling conflicts and enhance coordination between teams.
Solution
Swedwise proposed integrating the Change Calendar into an Exchange-based solution that users could subscribe to directly through Outlook or other calendar applications. To implement this, we utilised Broadcom’s built-in Process Automation Manager (PAM), which allowed us to automate the workflow using PowerShell scripts, database queries, and file management routines.
The choice of PAM was based on its existing presence in the environment, but the solution could also have been implemented using .NET or other technologies.
Result
Swedwise’s solution enables seamless calendar sharing across the organisation, significantly reducing the risk of change-related disruptions.
Now, users have a clear and unified view of upcoming changes directly in their personal calendars, improving planning and collaboration across IT and operations, laying the groundwork for broader usage of PAM in Region Jönköping’s IT landscape.
